Making Vinyl Magazine – No.3
…built on shared knowledge, and shaped for everyone who cares about vinyl…

The vinyl world has a new voice: Making Vinyl Magazine, a publication that puts the making of records at the center of the conversation — technically, economically, and culturally.

With this third issue, Making Vinyl Magazine continues to take shape step by step. The second edition marked an important step. As the first issue made available to the public, it extended beyond familiar circles and found its way into record stores and listening spaces. The response was encouraging. Stores came back to us, some asked for additional copies, others simply shared feedback. It wasn’t hype – it was steady interest. That was enough to give us confidence to move forward and, for this issue, increase the print run.

If there’s one thing that became clear over the past year, it’s that the strength of this industry isn’t just in the product – it’s in the willingness to share knowledge, compare approaches, and question how things are done. This publication tries to accompany the discourse. So take this issue as an invitation: to read, to question, and ideally to continue the conversation.

Content-wise, we’ve kept the same approach: trying to reflect the range of topics that actually matter in day-to-day work and in the bigger picture. Within the pages, technical insights sit alongside historical perspectives and critical reflections. We take a closer look at the material realities of production, from the manufacturing of PVC to the nuances of mastering for vinyl – topics that are foundational, yet constantly evolving. These processes, often operating behind the scenes, are essential to understanding both the possibilities and limitations of the medium. We also wanted to leave room for more critical perspectives. Vinyl’s current visibility brings opportunities, but also questions. Environmental impact, production limitations, and the broader role of physical media today are all part of the discussion. These aren’t issues with simple answers, but they’re worth addressing openly. What connects all of this is a shared commitment to the medium – not only as a product, but as a practice shaped by many hands and viewpoints. Making Vinyl Magazine aims to mirror that diversity, offering a place where different approaches can coexist and inform one another.

What we’re aiming for is fairly straightforward: to create something that people in this field actually want to pick up and spend time with. Something that reflects the complexity of the work without overcomplicating it. And something that can grow along with the community around it.
